Aubergines

Aubergines  18 x 16 pastel  $600

Felt like doing something large for a change. Just received my award pastels from Terry Ludwig and there were a lot of violets and periwinkles in it, ergo the subject of this painting.

From my garden you ask? Nah, hubby doesn't like eggplant— it's a texture thing, so I don't waste the real estate on them, but they sure have amazing colors.

I have painted an artichoke bloom before. It's fun to try a subject again in a new way.

Outside Flagstaff, 1971

Outside Flagstaff, 1971   6 x 6 pastel

I found this image in a box of photos while clutter-clearing the attic. It was 1971 and I was crashing with a bunch of people in Albuquerque. Someone said "Let's drive to the Grand Canyon" — so we did. I don't even remember having a camera. Actually, it was 1971, so I don't remember much else either!

This is another quick study after the Tony Allain workshop. I think I might try this one larger.

Fashionistas

Fashionistas  8 x 9 pastel  $100

Another exercise from Tony Allain's workshop. I have always been afraid to paint people,
but Tony broke it down and made it easy and fun! No photo references, I just painted what
was in my head.

To The Palisades

To The Palisades  6 x 9 pastel  $100

Back from a three-day workshop in CT with Tony Allain. Learned a lot, had fun and just let go. It helps immensely to leave the ego at the door and realize there will be some mediocre paintings, some really bad ones, and maybe a keeper or two. It's all about the journey away from your comfort zone.

I really enjoyed the ride.
