Saint-Édouard, QC

Saint-Édouard, QC   8 x 10 pastel

Day 1 — A snowy field on the way home from Montreal. This is a very rough, homemade board that adds nice texture for landscapes.

With a Twist

With a Twist  7 x 5 pastel

This seemed like a fitting way to end the old and bring in the new year.

Tomorrow begins the 30 Painting in 30 Days Challenge— hard to believe this will be my fifth one, but my overflowing flat files are proof that a lot of work gets generated during these challenges. For the moment I have no theme for the month, so stay tuned and see what happens.

Laimingų Naujųjų metų!

Button, Button, Who's Got The Buton?

Button, Button, Who's Got The Button?  16 x 19 pastel

I have held off showing this painting until it made the rounds in a few juried shows, but it is now back home so I thought I would share it.

I don't normally work on paintings for a long time, but this one took a few weeks. We said goodbye to our dear dog Ursa during this time, so this painting has a special meaning for me. I dedicated one of the buttons to her, maybe you can find it.

On The Edge

On The Edge  14 x 19  pastel

This painting had a very strange beginning. It started as a bucolic country scene in CT. It didn't work, but I liked the terracotta surface and some foreground shapes that looked like the Southwest, so I just had fun making it up.

Ruby's Slipper

Ruby's Slipper  8 x 10 pastel

I am waiting to hear from my neighbor which daughter owns this shoe, but given the pun in the title I am going for Ruby. I started this a few weeks ago, abandoned it, and brought it out again today.

Pint of Honey

Pint of Honey  6 x 6   pastel

We came home from Lithuania with a kilo of honey, and this is about all that is left. I have also signed up for another Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Challenge, so look for that starting Jan 1, 2016!

KitchenAid Ultra Power

KitchenAid Ultra Power  14 x 11 pastel

I really love these mixers. I don't own one because I am not much of a baker, and I don't think I can make up my mind what color I want. Currently there are 32 colors on the Williams-Sonoma website.

This painting was almost a wipe out, then I put in the background color and got all excited about it again. See, it's all about the color...

Yellow Pearl

Yellow Pearl  5 x 7 pastel  NFS

This was a commission from 2 years ago. Seemed fitting to follow the last post with another oyster painting, and tomorrow is Pearl Harbor Day.

I have wanted to paint this since our neighbor gave us some extra oysters she scored for Valentine's Day.

Commitment award

Commitment  20 x 24 pastel

Just heard the good news that "Commitment" has won the Pastel Society of America Award at the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club* 119th Annual Open Juried Exhibition.

The exhibit represents women from all over the United States, Canada and Europe in a variety of mediums. Stop by if you are in the city:

The exhibition is open to the public from December 1 - 18.
Monday through Saturday, 10 AM – 5 PM.
National Arts Club, 15 Gramercy Park South, NYC

*The Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club is one of the oldest women's art clubs in the country and was founded in 1896 in honor of Miss Wolfe, a prominent New York philanthropist and an avid art collector. She was the only woman among the 106 founders of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Club's home base, where monthly meetings are held, is the historic Grace Church on Broadway in New York City. The club's original function was to provide aid and counsel to women art students who found life in New York a struggle. In the 1950's the Club's focus shifted to serving women artists of professional standing throughout the United States. The Club now organizes exhibitions, lectures, scholarships and other art related activities. Today's Members are represented in museums, galleries and prestigious art collections all over the world.

Anohue Tumblers

Anohue Tumblers  7 x 5 pastel

Here is another vintage item from my past. It's odd to be old enough to have a vintage item from my past,
but great to have Google to look it all up!

Pyrex

Pyrex  6 x 6  pastel

Did you know this is the 100th year anniversary of Pyrex?

I grew up with these bowls. We ate everything in them— ice cream, My-T-Fine pudding, soft boiled eggs— but they are officially called Custard Cups on the website.
