Rainbow Trout

Rainbow Trout 5 x 9 pastel

Day 20 —The rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) is native only to the rivers and lakes of North America, west of the Rocky Mountains. They prefer cool, clear rivers, streams, and lakes, though some will leave their freshwater homes and follow a river out to the sea. These migratory adults, called steelheads because they acquire more silvery markings, will spend several years in the ocean.

I admit I never knew that. Painting fish has opened a new world.

  1. You seem have a real penchant for fish! I love the way you manage to portray their scales ....texture and brilliance without a speck of fussiness.

    1. I used an iridescent pastel on a few spots in this one. I do love doing fish, maybe I'll try a large one.
